Back to School Week

Friends,
It is wonderful having the whole team back! Thank you for your enthusiasm regarding all things associated with the return of the students. Congratulations to Mari and Frederick, and those working with them, on organizing an informative in-service experience for us all.

Special thanks to everyone who was involved with orientation. There were many people who gave presentations, ran activities or moved students from place to place. I'm concerned about listing names to thank people specifically because I don't want to miss anyone. Even though we want to reflect on the event and make changes for next year, the three-day event was a success. Again, thank you.

There are some clubs that need advisors and areas that need support, all with points associated with them. If you would like to learn more and are interested in earning an additional point, please see me.

As you plan out homework for the month of September, please avoid assigning work due on Tuesday, October 1. The Jewish holiday, Rosh Hashanah, begins at sundown on Sunday, September 29 and ends at sundown on Tuesday, October 1. School is closed on Monday, September 30. Students observing the holiday will be attending services and will not be able to complete work assigned over the long weekend. Therefore, please refrain from assigning short or long term assignments due on Tuesday. If families observe the holiday across both days, students will not return to school until that Wednesday. I hope this early notice will help you plan.

If you have not already done so, please read the email I sent yesterday (Friday) regarding the updated change to the schedule on Tuesday.

Finally, I'm not sure why, but this email seems to cut off in such a way that you have to scroll down within it. Be sure to read from this point through my usual closing ... Kind regards... I keep having to scroll down after September 6.

REMINDERS

  • If you plan to invite a speaker to FCS to speak to a group of students, no matter how small, please speak with me before extending any sort of invitation.
  • Remember that if you ever have the need to dial 911 from a cell phone while on campus, say, I'm calling from Montgomery Country.
  • Do not dial 9 for an outside line any longer; hit #, then the number you are dialing instead.
  • Step by step process we should follow when organizing trips, even if the plan is to take a small group of students off campus ... If you are thinking of offering a trip this year or during the summer with the intention of inviting FCS students to attend, please speak with me as a first step.

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Testimony of Community ... Community is that place where the person you least want to live with always lives. And when that person moves away, someone else arises immediately to take (his/her/their) place. (Parker Palmer, Quaker) Thank you to Robyn and Anna for this quote.

Did you know that you can recycle batteries at FCS? Lee Harman graciously collects used batteries in a box in their office and then takes them to Mom’s Organics. Thank you, Lee!
